How does an astronaut return to Earth from the International Space Station? What does it feel like to re-enter the atmosphere? How does the Soyuz capsule function? Watch and find out. This video is based on an actual lesson delivered to the ESA astronaut class of 2009 (also known as the ) during their ESA Basic Training. It features interviews with astronauts who have flown on the Soyuz and dramatic footage of actual landings.

Produced by the ESA Human Spaceflight and Operations (HSO) Astronaut Training Division, Cologne, Germany, in collaboration with the HSO Strategic Planning and Outreach Office, Noordwijk, The Netherlands, with special support from Roskosmos.

Hola! Saludos!

5he funny thing is about the rehabilitation process upon landing. Have a read about one of the very firsts landing in USSR, when cosmonauts have landed in taiga in a winter (-30 degree C) and a rescue team where searching for them for 3 days, and they had to stand up, make a hat, burn a fire. That was hard core.

    82. Richard

Very interesting documentary. It’s been a long while that i saw something on NLname that grabbed my interest like this. And also an amazing feat of engineering that Russia has accomplished. It’s quite ironic in respect to all the silly things we usually see from Russia; Car crashes, trucks powered by donkeys, big women carrying tree trunks, old huts where the people live in, etc.. If they put all this rocket science level intelligence in their country it may actually make that image go away.

      1. European Space Agency, ESA

Thanks so much for watching, Richard!
